Eating fish intestine may sound bizarre but we Assamese people love to eat fish intestines. Lai xaak aru masor petu bhoja or fish intestine with mustard greens is a simple Assamese style fish intestine recipe. It is served in the main course with rice as a side dish.
Fish Intestine with Mustard Greens

- 100 gm fish intestine of any fish, big or small
- 1 cup finely chopped mustard greens
- 2 green chillies
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
- 2-3 tbsp mustard oil
- Salt to taste.
METHOD:
- Clean and wash the fish intestines under running water.
- Cut the chillies lengthwise and make half of them.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add onions and turmeric. Add fish intestines and cook for 2-3 minutes till the oil separates.
- Now add finely chopped mustard greens, green chillies and salt. Cook till mustard greens becomes soft and tender.
- Remove from heat. Serve hot with rice.
